When in Manila one must try some traditional Filipino food right? Upon recommendation I headed to Abe at Bonafacio Global City. The reviews on Trip Advisor and Zomato suggest that this place served traditional Filipino food that is done well.
Upon arrival myself and a few others were greeted by cheerful staff. The restaurant was quite full so we were seated outside whilst a table inside was being prepared. It was a short wait and our drink orders were taken in the meantime.
We ordered Gambas al Ajillo, Sinuteng Baby Squid and Pork Sinigang for starters. Bamboo Rice, Dilis Rice, Klassic Kare Kare, Crispy Pata, Crispy Tadyang, Spicy Sisig Pampanga, Gising-Gising and Lamb Adobo was ordered for main course. As you can tell we were quite hungry and ordered (or over-ordered) some of the recommended Classic Filipino Dishes. Some of the dishes are pictured below.
The food was in my opinion perfect! I absolutely enjoyed every meal and the service was great. I wish I took more photos just to show how amazing the dishes looked but I was too hungry to capture all the dishes untouched. These dishes definitely highlighted the variety of flavours of Filipino Food.
The Pork sinigang was flavorsome, the sour and salty combination was enjoyable. The Pork was cooked well and It was a great start to the dining experience. The Bamboo Rice was delicious and before it was served a mini but entertaining drum solo was performed by the waiter serving us. The Crispy Pata was delicious and thinking about it makes my mouth water. It was tender and the skin was so crisp. The soy sauce served with it complemented the dish very well. The Kare Kare tasted amazing, the meat from the oxtail was falling off the bone and the peanut flavour was delicious. My Partner particularly enjoyed the Dilis Rice (rice topped with dilis or dried anchovies) as well as the Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp). The Sinigang (sweet and savoury soup) may be quite sour for those who are not used to the taste however it was definitely a hit! Each dish was different and unique which provided a great flavour experience.
For dessert we tried the Turon with Nangka at Ube, Leche flan and the Buko Pandan Ice Cream. All the desserts were pleasant without being overbearingly sweet.
The overall experience at Abe's was a great introduction to Filipino Cuisine. The service and food was impressive and I will definitely return. I recommend going here if you have never tried Filipino food or are craving a delicious Filipino Feast. You will definitely go home with a full belly! (or at least I'd think so!) I definitely over ate! The food was just too good! My only problem was the fact that I couldn't eat anymore.
