After reading some great reviews online I decided to check out Ginos Brick Oven Pizza. Being a pizza lover I was really looking forward to trying a brick oven pizza place and tasting some of the unusual desserts they have on the menu. The reviews raved about the chocolate chicharon and the nutella soup.
I ordered the Burrata Caprese Salad as a starter and the Bianca Verde & Meat pizza. For dessert I had to try the chocolate chicharon and nutella soup to see what all the fuss was about.
The salad was enjoyable. The burrata cheese is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozarella and cream. It was light textured, soft and tasty placed on top of a blend of pesto and olive oil. The cheese was surrounded by fresh tomatoes and basil. The overall dish was fresh, simple and delicious, I only wish it came with bread as I found myself dipping my pizza crust into it.
The pizza's were nice, very oily but had good flavours. The pizza tasted fresh with a charred taste from the brick oven. The Bianca Verde pizza was extremely oily making it hard to enjoy and was slightly over cooked on one side.
When dessert was served it looked inviting however I did not enjoy the chocolate chicharon. The Chicharon did not have much flavour and was covered in a thin layer of dark chocolate. It may have tasted better if they used a better quality chicharon that was more true to its flavour and larger in size. I don't think the flavours worked well together. The Nutella soup was tasty and comparable to a nutella pizza style dessert, but was nothing special. The reviews may have heightened my expectations in regards to the desserts.
Overall Gino's is an inexpensive place to eat. The food here is okay however upon returning I would try their other pizzas and order the Chocolate Salami dessert I spotted on the menu.
